First off, let me apologize for the lateness of this week’s ranking review. I’ve been experiencing some 502 Bad Gateway errors for the past week that prevented me from logging in up until yesterday evening (though I still don’t know if I can log in from my home computer, since I’m doing this article now on my office PC, at the risk of getting caught by my supervisors).

Anyway, I really haven’t been watching/listening much of Vocaloid as of late. In fact, I haven’t been able to watch last week’s WVR. Yeah, that’s how busy I’ve been. So hopefully I can rely on the rest of the V-ism staff to do finish up the rest of the article (like adding the opening image, since I can’t go to potentially NSFW ‘sites in my office).

BTW, just in case you’re wondering where I got the subtitle for this week’s review, it’s originally “I’m with CoCo.”

NAHO’s OPENING STATEMENT:
(I apologize for the lateness. I had a lot of other things going on in the background, but I won’t bore you with details. Let’s get started!)

It’s time again for this week’s VocaRan!

Happy birthday, Luka-sama!! I hope your beauty will continue to flourish from now on!

Having said that, this week Luka should rule the rankings. As a result, I wonder how things will turn out…?

IN OTHER VOCALOID NEWS:

February has lots of release news. The initial release of “Exit Tunes Presents Stardom 3” will, for some reason, come with a デP-tan figure set. The release date is February 3rd.

Also, another long-awaited Vocaloid only doujin event is coming. On February 7th, “Voc@loid M@ster 11” will be in the Tokyo-Ootakusangyo plaza PiO, opening at 13:00. You might even get a chance to meet the creators…!

Once February has passed, it’ll almost be spring… I say that, but February has just begun, heh.

      1. @dez: That's because I corrected it not long ago. Originally the link points to sm9495384 instead of sm9495834 (which is the accurate link for this Miku song).

  1. Nice to know that Yuki made it into the rankings, and that the 40 cap has been reached…
And I think Paradichlorobenzene has been in there for enough weeks to retain its dignity, although more weeks wouldn't be too bad.
Hehe, Megane-P (better than Ultra-Noob)…I'm not too fond of the song though.
Wow, a lot of these regulars need to die already, and yes, I'm talking about you, Double Lariat, JBF, magnet, Shoushitsu, Luka Night Fever…As much as I love Ura-Omote Lovers, it needs to die too. (And I sang that at karaoke the other day. It was hard as hell, especially when my friends standing by found out what the song was about…)
Shiro no Musume is doing about as well as Meshitsukai did on its first run in the rankings, but I hope it doesn't stick around for too long. I love the series, but I don't want to wear it out.
SCL Project – Len, take off the dress please!
月雪花 = <3. As well as iDOLLA (but I'm as much of a Gumi fan as a certain person on V-ism -cough-). I'd like Child's Garden more if it was sung by a different Vocaloid (Luka's voice just doesn't quite fit).
I'm a little shocked the Pick-Up wasn't a Luka song, but whatever…it's a cute song, but tell me the truth, does the Pick-Up ever actually get picked up?
Final comments on This Week In History…I'm still sad they can't show the Roshin Yuukai PV…eh…oh, and Shineba ii Noni = <3.

    1. You want Len to take the dress off?! WHY?! Oh, I get it, you want him naked… oh ho, okay then, that's all right. I get ya. ;D

Let's not rush getting rid of all the regulars. We just managed to let go of the ryo/supercell songs, 結ンデ開イテ and Miku Miku ni(ry, and I think that's attributed to the new ranking system. Also, Shoushitsu and Luka Luka Night Fever fluctuate… they're not on there constantly. I would love to finally get rid of magnet and keep 裏表 off the countdown, though. =(

The Pick-Up actually does get "picked up" sometimes. That happened with Green Green (I remember it specifically because it was the only time Sonika-chan made the VocaRan), and it's happened with others, too.

      しねばいいのに = <3 <3 <3

  2. Yay! I am happy that Yuki FINALLY made it on the rankings aside from her demos! Too bad that she had to ride the Miku-Miki Rocket to get there. I hope 80 climbs its way up into the rankings. I am waiting for a Yuki exclusive on the WVR. (Oh, yeah, more Kiyoteru and Gumi too)

  3. What about the VocaloidM@ster Live event? Is it like a DVD or something more?
-is confused- I actually wanna see whatever they present in the VocaloidM@ster doujin events that's why.

  4. Bah. I just cannot get into Mayuko's songs.
Really glad to see that Mayuko finally has a song on the rankings either way.

I can see why rank 1 is rank 1. The PV is cute and is like an RPG. The song isn't too special, but it's really catchy.
And it was kind of a slow week. I can't think of anything I'd rather have as rank 1.
Wouldn't mind if rank 2 did, though. Love that song.

  5. So here’s what I think about the rankings this week:

30: The PV is nice, but it doesn’t do much to the overall quality for me. I can see this possibly sticking around for another week, but it’s likely going to fall off soon.
29: This song has a lot of tear jerker value going for it, sure, and it’s not on the charts that often anymore, but I’m getting a little sick of it. Not as much as some of the other regulars, but it’s lost a lot of its power.
28: Now, THIS, on the other hand…kill it. Kill it NOW. I hate this song and everything it stands for. If this didn’t become a regular, I would’ve thought of it as a decent song with a slightly cheesy premise, but it DOES. NOT. DESERVE. TO. BE. IN. EVERY. EFFING. RANKING. I do believe I have made my point clear.
27: The PV and the song really clash here. The song is a nice rock song, but the PV seems to be an attempt to be artistic and doesn’t fit the song well. It would probably rank higher if the PV was more rock-ish. Of course, this is going by what I’ve seen in the rankings and the PV may very well exceed my expectations. I don’t know.
26: It’s the beat that makes this one. I’d dismiss this as just another slow Luka song, but like I said, the beat makes it worthwile. It should be at least a little higher.
25: The song is fine on its own, but the PV is great. (Quick question – does PV refer to Vocaloid music videos in general, or just a specific type of them? I’m getting a gut feeling that I’m using the term incorrectly.)
24: Does this really need to stay on the rankings? Songs with deep meanings get on the rankings way too often and they unfortunately get annoying to listen to after so many repeats. But, of course, if it did drop off quickly, people would complain, so it’s a lose-lose situation.
23: I just don’t get the appeal of this. Really. The only thing going for it is that it’s creepy, and that’s pretty weak when not combined with catchiness or some other positive quality that makes it memorable.
22: This was my favorite song for a while. It’s still one of my favorites, and it’s saddening to see it drop. Rise, I say! RISE!
21: I’m not surprised at this one falling. This is a nice addition to the Evil series, sure, but it’s really lyric-dependant, moreso than usual. It’s probably the weakest song in the series, but that’s not saying much since the other four are hard to live up to.
20: …Will you excuse my while I reassmble my brain? I think it just exploded from the cuteness.
19: I didn’t like this one at first, but I’ve warmed up to it now after several listenings. There’s not much more to say than that.
18: This is another of my favorites, but my opinion of wowaka has dropped since I despise artists who get a hit and then try to imitate their hit in every subsequent song they make in hopes of another hit. C’mon, can’t you be a little more creative? It’s not like fast-paced songs aren’t the only decent songs you can make.
17: A nice, catchy song…unfortunately, it’s getting a little old after so much time in the rankings. I still like it, but I’m finding it increasingly hard to say so.
16: A good song that I thought dropped out of regular status a while ago. How did it suddenly come back?
15: In my opinion this one is pretty forgettable. Not saying it’s bad, it’s just…forgettable.
14: Probably one of my favorite serious Kaito songs. I don’t know why I like it, I just do. It’s appealing.
13: Didn’t expect this one to take such a fall. I hope this isn’t going to go down the path Daughter of White is currently taking.
12: And this one fell, too? I mean, I knew that this wasn’t going to be a regular, but I thought it would at least stay in the top ten another week…or maybe that was just wishful thinking, since I like this song.
11: The reason that this is so popular is probably that it doesn’t get old as quickly as the other songs. This is probably my fiftieth time encountering it and it still hasn’t worn off on me.
Pickup: I just can’t help but think that this would be better with a PV.
10: It’s good, but not my type of song. I’m starting to appreciate it a bit more, though.
9: Meh. That’s all I can say about this song. It’s just really…meh. Nothing to say about it. It’s average in almost all respects, and I don’t know why it became popular enough to merit a spot in the top ten. At least it’s dropping.
8: This is very awesome and needs to be higher. Seriously. Not one of my favorites, since it’s not my taste, but surely a lot of people would appreciate this. A very, very good song with a very, very, very good PV. It needs to be in the top 3.
7: One of those songs which I know has appeal, and can recognize that it’s a good song, but I can’t pinpoint what exactly makes it good and don’t regard it very highly as a result. For some reason I think it will drop soon.
6: Fine on its own, but it pales in comparison to some other songs in this genre.
5: This one is like 7, the difference being that I don’t like this one as much and I can see it staying for a bit.
4: Deserved the rise it got, sure, but it should probably be a little lower. It’s good, but not exactly great.
H-5: Is this a parody of Miku Miku ni Shite Ageru? Because it sure sounds like it. It’s also vaguely creepy…
H-4: Doriko’s songs just don’t do it for me. They’re all decent, but they all seem to lack something.
H-3: Frankly, there’s nothing to say about this that hasn’t already been said. I will say that it’s one of those songs that doesn’t get old after a lot of repeats, but I think that’s the last thing that can be said about it that isn’t off-topic.
H-2: The dissonance between the melody and the lyrics cracks me up.
H-1: Still a pretty song, even though I’ve never bothered to look up the lyrics. They’re sad, no doubt, knowing songs like this.
3: Woo, a new favorite. I like songs that have multiple singers singing different lyrics at once.
2: Sorry, guys, this song just bores me.
1: This is why a good PV is important. It can really boost the overall effect of the song. This song is most likely going to be a novelty song that drops drastically after this week, but it wouldn’t get where it is without the video.

I’ve followed the coverage for…um, about a week now. But I’ve read all the posts on the site and watched all the rankings you covered, and your coverage surpasses all other blogs/communities/whatever that have covered the rankings (in terms of my enjoyment reading them, not the amount of rankings covered, since there was a huge schedule slip).

As you might have noticed, my comments got shorter as the end approached…well, that’s because there’s not much to say about the higher-up songs. The lower ones are much more interesting for me.

…Sorry about The Attack of the Fifty-Foot Comment. I just had a lot to say. Hopefully you don’t tl;dr this.

    1. Oh, and I also apologize if you get multiple copies of my comment. (I don’t see more than one right now, but this isn’t a reliable computer.) I was running into 502 errors and had to submit my comment multiple times.

    2. Um. Correction. I should've proofread this before submitting it: I meant "are the only decent songs you can make" in 18, and I missed a letter in "reassemble" in 20. I guess my brain really DID explode.
