It seems like spring isn’t going to be around for long; where I am it hit over eighty degrees today! Too bad I’m needing to grow out my hair, I’d love to cut it all off right now. But with summer comes more free time (for some of us) so I expect we’ll see a lot of new videos each week for the next while.

NAMI‘s OPENING STATEMENT:
Sorry for the wait. It’s time for the Weekly UTAU Ranking!

The Golden Week is over. Everyone, did you enjoy it? Anyway, I for one checked UTAU videos every day! w Not what you’d expect from a young girl! w I think I’ll complain to the uploader.

On a different subject, we’ve been collecting illustrations for the UTARan. Starting with the next ranking, we’ll be using those illustrations. You can still submit your works on the uploader’s blog. For those interested, please check the link in the video description. Thank you.

Well then, let’s see the ranking!

☆TOP THREE

NAMI‘s ENDING NOTES:
The number 1 was “HIGH*5!” by Mucha-P, an original song featuring Mucha Charm, Haruka Nana, Sekka Yufu, Kasane Teto, and Megurine Luka. Congratulations!

Mucha-P is a senior UTAU-P and used to make it into the rankings on a regular basis, but it’s the first time he got number 1. Once again, congratulations!

To conclude this ranking, let’s see number 21 to 100, as well as the extra ranking number 6 to 25. See you next week!

READERS’ PICKS:
Each week we’ll feature one reader’s video pick. If you’d like to see your pick here, please comment and list the video and why you like it; it can be any video, so long as there is UTAU involved!

For the weeks that we do not have a Reader’s Pick I will post a video from the UTARan SP 2011 list. This week is number 105, “Liar Garden” PV featuring Kasane Teto. This was a collaborative piece between five people the effort definitely shows through.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
Lots of yellow this week. While I hope we have some more originals next week I wouldn’t be surprised if we got it with a few covers of wowaka’s newest song, since it’s exploded on the Vocaloid charts. I guess we’ll see next week.

  1. Wait, "he"? Are you sure MuchaP is a "he" when the UTAU Mucha Charm is a GIRL? I mean, it's certainly not impossible given the number of male UTAU voiced by girls, but I was pretty sure MuchaP was female…

Also, I thought I asked about this before but maybe I didn't: why is Golden Week written as "The" Golden Week? It sounds weird. :/

#14, I can't believe people are using THAT odotte mita version of NNSFN. I mean, it wasn't the worst one I saw, but there has to be a better one. This one just feels stupid, gimmicky, and "lookit me I'm trying to be the next Kozue!". Yeah, I mad, a bit.

    I'm sad Kino's new song fell to #4. It's really pretty. 🙁

#3, I can't believe people remixed/redid "for you" and didn't fix the weird tuning! The producer who originally made the song even apologized for it back when it first came out (this was when Teto's VCV was new). I mean, the guitar sounds great and all, but that tuning is still kind of icky.

#2 is kind of sad, but I guess it's the kind of song we should come to expect from KarapP by now. The lyrics really aren't that hard, though. I've noticed all his (this video takes the gender mystery out of the equation) songs tend to be written simplistically, so even basic Japanese students should be able to "get" it, at least somewhat. Or, that's how I think of it, at least. To put it this way, I can puzzle out the lyrics, and I'm still a beginner! XD

And #1 is surprisingly great. Luka is used well, too. This song does deserve to be number one, and I'm glad MuchaP got recognition for it.

I have a song pick! I was listening to this the other day and thought it was really nice. "Ame Nochi Hare" sung by Namine Ritsu. http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm12420110

    1. On the internet I assume everyone is a male unless otherwise proven. In Japanese they use pronouns a lot less than we do, so there is often no clear gender mentioned. We can guess she based on her UTAUloid, but who really knows.

I not even beginner Japanese, so you have one up on me. XD

      Thanks for your Reader Pick!

      1. But the UTAU is a pretty good indication… I mean, there's really no reason to assume it's a he because the UTAU the producer made was a girl, so that would stand to reason that it would naturally be assumed that the producer is a girl. I don't know why, that just really bothered me. It's like assuming Yamanon is male or something.
