UTAU for Mac: UTAU-Synth

Source: UTAU-Synth

A Mac OS X version of the UTAU software has been released. More info after the break.

Until now, Mac users couldn’t enjoy UTAU, and were limited to only using proprietary software like the Macne series instead as there was no Mac OS X version of Vocaloid either. But they can now rejoice as an UTAU port, called “UTAU-Synth”, has been announced! For now, there’s only a 30 day trial version, and there’s no additional info as of now as to what will be coming up next.

Check out this cover of Kenji Sawada’s “Toki no Sugiyuku Mama ni” by mazzo.

According to the official UTAU-Synth website, the interface has been completely redone and there are three new features: lyric input works the same regardless of the type of voicebank (be it renzoku-on, aka continuous, or regular VB’s), the possibility to place notes freely, and click-and-drag rectangular selection.

You can download the UTAU-Synth 1.0.0 b11 version here, get your 30 day license here, and check the online help here (Japanese). In case the links don’t work, go directly to the download page.

  1. I’m glad to hear more news about this, and that cover sounds awesome.

But by ‘get your 30 day licence’ does that mean they’ll make you pay for it? That is like, against the biggest advantage of UTAU…

  2. The interface looks pretty.

And that is all I can say about that.
Lol maybe if I have time I'll actually see if the compatibility with Logic is something possible.

  3. Going to try this out! Interface is pretty and I've never played with UTAU before so this could be a great chance for me to become more familiar with them. There goes my uni projects…

  4. YES!! FINALLY!!! I've been waiting forever! And ever! So you need to download a Utau's voice banks for it to work then?

  5. Awesoooome and it has nothing to do with GarageBand which makes it a million times better! As long as the port is free like the original, I'm happy.

  6. I usually hate UTAU with a passion because of its messy format and poor voice banks but this Mac version looks very nicely cleaned up. It looks like at step in the right direction with putting the voice effects ( Dynamics, Brightness, Breathiness, etc,etc ) at the bottom then on the notes themselves.

  7. I wonder if there's still a delay before the singing starts? I'll have to try this once I get access to a Mac, but I'll likely be getting one this fall/winter anyway

    1. i hope soon, but for now, can we renew the 30-day thing? or do we need to back up our stuff made with this, uninstall, download again, and register again?
      or… is it just 30 days and ur done? ;_;

  8. how can i renew UTAU-Synth?
I sold my windows-based PC… and the 30 day trial is over TT.TT
    What can i do?

    1. A register key lets you download and use UTAU-Synth. If you go to the second link provided (in the last paragraph), you’ll see a row of links. Click on the third one from the left (it has the number 30 in its name). A window will pop up with the license code. It is good for a 30 day trial. Just get a new code every time you need to renew your license.

    1. After the 30 day trial, the license is invalid. You need to go back to link where you got your first code and get a new one. Using that code, you should be able to renew your license for another 30 days.

  9. hey… umm i have utau synth and everytime i play a song it closes down 🙁 any ideas on how to stop this from happening>?

  10. How do i make it english? it is all in japanese, i cant remember what kind either :p Kanji!!! thats it. help me please

  11. I downloaded it, and downloaded new voice banks like Michiyo Ishimaru, but when in the program, the voice banks won’t sing! Not even the simple “Ah~”. I think I need to change my default UTAU, however, it’s in japanese so I have no idea how to…

    1. It’s probably because of the voice banks use a different type of japanese writing (if you get what I mean) the most common one they use is hiragana.

  12. Always thought japanese was hard… But once you know chinese, everything else is easier ^ ^ Though I’m not getting the license part. Do we need to renew?

  13. um yeah well i downloaded the latest version of utau and when i tried to open int it said that there was no licence and that i had to register a key (it’s asking for a kind of password thing) help anyone? (i don’t know if this matters but my computer has the lion system)

    1. Just copy the link from your license and paste it in. That may help (you might have typed it in wrong). If it still doesn’t work, try getting a new code.

  14. if the 30 day thing expires, u just get a new code thingmobob and then do the same thing you did for your first license code thingy.

Do you know how to get the licence code?

  15. When I try to open the UTAU-Synth application, the warning ““UTAU-Synth” can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.” comes up. How do I get UTAU-Synth to open anyways?

    1. Right click on the app and select open instead of just doubling clicking the app to open it. You’ll be able to open it this way.

  16. To make an utau, you need Audacity or a recording program of some kind (Audacity is the best one to use). I can’t find it right now, but there are syllable lists for the necessary syllables for English and Japanese utaus. You record all of them on the Audacity (or whichever program you choose to use) separately. For each one, you make them louder, then fade in and fade out, then louder again. Save them as .wav files. Make a folder for your UTAU and then for the syllables. Once your done with the voice bank, you can start on UTAU or UTAU-Synth. This is as far as I can help you as I have zero experience with UTAU and UTAU-Synth. Just ask if you have questions or need clarifications 😀

  17. Yes, you need to download or make and Utau voice bank and upload it to the program (UTAU or UTAU-Synth, whichever one you have/use).

  18. I keep using the GenEdit thing to do stuff to the UTAU, but it always deletes the work I did on it. Am I doing anything wrong? There’s no Save window popping up.

  19. I put the license code in the usual box, but when I press the button thing, it won’t go through. I deleted it and re-downloaded it, but it still doesn’t work.

  20. hello, I have a problem. Utau worked fine until one day the 30 days code stopped working and now I don’t know what to do (google translator :P)

  21. no, it just means that you cant use until you redeem it again, but there is a way to not have to put a license once a month though.
