Typenist
Even though August 31 have passed, Miku’s birthday is not over yet for me. More great things are happening this week. Such as this news.
An online typing game featuring Hatsune Miku have been released. It’s called Typenist. So what you do in the game, is type VOCALOID song lyrics as Miku sings them. The game is now playable, but it’s still on the BETA phase, so there may be a lot of bugs in the game. To better understand the game, here’s an introduction video on Nico Nico Douga.
For those who are curious about the game, read on for the tutorial on how to register and play the game. This game is a browser-based multiplayer online game, by the way. Read on for the full details.
Here’re some statistics given by the game author.
1st Day [30 August 2008]
- 52.44 MB data transferred
- 13,674 files transferred
2nd Day [31 August 2008]

- 160,535 files transferred
3rd Day [1 September 2008]
- 3,290 MB data transferred
- 388,171 files transferred
So first, let’s talk about the gameplay. It’s hard. VERY hard (when you do it alone). The lyrics would appear on the screen, and you’d have to type it correctly. Miku would sing the music in the background. Here’s what the game would look like when it’s started. It’s browser-based and only works on IE7 (for now). The author of the game said that he’s working on a Firefox and Opera compatible version of the game. When you click “Game Start” from the homepage of the game, a pop-up window would appear and this would come up.
Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you, you’d have to register first (on their site) before you could play the game. If you’re curious and want to try the game out, read on, I’ll make a tutorial on how to register at the end of this post. So that’s the logging in screen. This screen have a cute song by OSTER project playing on the background too!
If you’re playing the game and is getting errors like this, don’t worry. It’s just telling you that it found a bug, and is asking you whether you want to report it (click OK) or not (click Cancel). If you found a bug that annoys you, click OK and tell them what the bug is about and how to reproduce it. If when connecting to the game server you have this error, just ignore it, it’s an IE problem. So after connected, here’s what you’ll see.
Here you could change your nickname (it could be in Japanese and it could be different from your login name) and avatar. Once you’re done, click OK.
You can never change your nickname once you set it, so it asks for a confirmation. Click Yes if you’re sure with your nickname and click No if you want to change it again.
After you confirmed your settings, it would log you out. Then you can sign in again and would arrive at the lobby screen below.
And so you could select rooms to play in, chat in the chat window, and check your status… And yes, this game have an experience and level system. You could create a new room by clicking on the orange “create room” button. Playing by yourself is very hard in this game (you’d have to enter ALL parts of the lyrics by yourself), but playing with others looks fun! Since I’m going to test the game, I’ll create a room for myself.
You could give a name to your room (or just leave the default there), set how many people can play in it, and set a password to it. After that, click on the big orange button there to confirm it. After that, you’ll be taken to the room screen.
If you want to see the full current song list, click on the image below.
More songs would be added with each update. But with great songs such as Miracle Paint or Dreaming Leaf or Melt in it, this game is worth playing! So I chose Melt to try out the game first…
And click on the red button to say that you’re ready.
And by playing, you’ll get experience points and would level up. This game have an online multiplayer option of up to 4 players. And it’s easier to play the songs in multiplayer! And so that’s Typenist, the game which would fix your typing skills while remembering Miku song lyrics. Here are the things the author planned to include in the next version.
- Input Japanese Characters Directly
- Works with Firefox and Opera
- Detailed number of point Calculations
- Additional benefits for higher leveled members
- In-game Virtual Currency, to buy accessories within the game
- UI Improvements
- Emoticons on Chats
- Rankings
- And more…
If any of you wants to register and play in it, follow these instructions.
