Yes, Kagamine Rin’s popular song Meltdown, also known as “Roshin Yukai”, has become the first Rin song to reach two million views on Nico Nico Douga and this feat was achieved on June 11th 2009, at 23:08 hours Japan Time, which is less than 6 months after the video was first uploaded.
This will be a celebratory post for the song seeing as it’s one of my and Kevin’s favorite Rin songs so expect to see a lot of videos related to the song as well as nice Vocaloid fanarts regarding the song while more information behind the story of the song will be provided as well. So to explore the videos, fanarts and information regarding the song just continue reading!
Firstly, let’s view the original verison by Rin, together with the credits for the song.

The story behind Meltdown is somewhat abstract, and it seems there’s no universal definition of the song. It all depends on the person interpreting the lyrics, and from here I will be listing two possible explanation behind the story of the song, one is the negative side and the other is the positive side.
The story talks about Adult Rin having committed many sins in the past as she tries to forget about her past, as shown by strangling her younger self in the song. But she couldn’t withstand it and eventually jumps into a nuclear reactor to end it all hoping that the world would be better off without her.
The positive side speaks about Adult Rin trying to cope with her past because of the many sins and wrongdoings that she has done in the past and towards the end, she has learnt to let go of her past (the fading away of her younger self towards the end of the song symbolizing her past) and eventually comes to terms with who she is now.
Ever since Meltdown was uploaded onto Nico Nico Douga back in late December 08, many remixes of the song and different karaoke versions by Nico Nico Douga artists have been created and here are some of them below.
Not long after Meltdown was uploaded, the song was subjected to a remix by baker featuring Hatsune Miku and it has a heavier techno feel than the original one.
This remix version, known as the “Hard R.K. Mix”, was done by cosMo (BousouP) and even though it was only recently uploaded the song has attracted many viewers’ attention with its hard rock singing style as well as Rin’s rocker looks in the video, in which the image was done by nagimiso, the same person who did the animation for the original Rin Meltdown video. This version of the song has even gotten the No. 1 spot in the Weekly Vocaloid Rankings in its first week. For your information cosMo is Kevin’s favorite Vocaloid producer ever, so it’s not a surprise that he loves this remix.
This is the MMD PV version featuring Kagamine Rin and Len and it’s simply awesome, though it’s a pity that it’s only the short version.
The popularity of the song has even spread to singers on Nico Nico Douga singing Utatte Mita versions of the song and this is one of them done by six Nico Nico Douga artists and here are the names of the artists: トゥライ, けったろ, clear, リツカ, Φ串Φ, 海苔子.
This verison was done by Turai, he’s more popularly known as minato or RyuuseiP who has created Vocaloid songs such as “SPICE!” and “RIP=RELEASE”, in which “RIP=RELEASE” has hit its first million views on NND last month.
A chorus version of Meltdown done by numerous Nico artists, the song was nicely arranged and the visual effect was good as well.
And now onto the Meltdown pictures gallery and I will post some of my favorites here, enjoy!
Currently Meltdown is ranking 25th on the Nico Nico Douga Two Millions Views Videos list and it’s truly a tribute to a very well done song, hopefully we can look forward to Meltdown doing even better in the near future. (3 millions views or more perhaps? =D). Meltdown is said to be the “Melt” of Kagamine Rin.
That’s all for now, we will continue to post more Vocaloid news and information soon.
