Finally, with my practicum report over and done with and my graduation patiently waiting around the corner, at last I can do what I’ve wanted to do for the past several months: slack off. But that don’t mean I’m gonna let up on delivering quality WVR reviews, no sir… But it does let me get to use the USB Vocaloid-series as my opening images, so that has me covered for at least 9-10 weeks (unless some other jerk editor uses the others for their own articles).

So anyway, let’s all just wait quietly until this week’s ranking gets up’d on NND… Alrighty! It’s here! Everybody take your seats, the video’s about to start!

Naho’s Opening Statement:

It’s time for this week’s VocaRan… Even though it’s almost April, it’s gotten really cold. I even heard it’s snowing up north, too.

Ignoring the colder weather, this week’s ranking has a lot of new songs! It’s also the end of the fiscal year, and that means balancing everything out! Give it all you’ve got!!

  • THIS WEEK IN HISTORY: (WVR #77 LINK HERE)
This spot is for a look back at the VocaRan one year before. Here are the top five songs from that week.

    • H5: <no comment>
    • H4: <no comment>
    • H3: KAITO rock… always nice.
    • H2: Reminds me of my impending graduation… and into the workforce… *sob~!* GAH!  I was ready for this to spike to the top! 🙁
    • H1: Stray Girl in Her Lenses!!! Nostalgia kicking in! I still wanna cosplay this. *stares sadly at her fat stomach* But I won’t… not for a while…
  • #3: 【初音ミク】 恐山ル・ヴォワール【オリジナル】 (↑11)
What a weird little song this is… Very beautiful; I can understand why it jumped up. It is nice to hear a song with such a simple beat.
  • #2: 【初音ミク】 モノクロ∞ブルースカイ 【オリジナル・のぼる↑】 (!!)
With the current scoring system, I’m not too hopeful that this would stay within the Top-5 long enough… This is great until the chorus, where it promptly turns into a clone of Chain Girl. I liked Snow White better. =/ Pretty PV thought.
  • #1: 初音ミクオリ ジナル曲 「初音ミクの戸惑(LONG VERSION)」 (–)
What the-!? Where the heck did come from!? Uh… the legions of cosMo fans? Just like most of his other stuff, I love it now that I’ve listened to it a few times. Not surprised in the least that this is number one.

In Other Vocaloid News:

Like I said, it’s almost April. That means it’s almost time for the start of a new school term in a new school year, and various other things as well.

And there’s other traditional events too, but… just what will we see…

Final Thoughts/Analysis:

Well, this week we saw what I thought would never come: the death of ロミシン from the top thirty. Actually, I kind of liked ロミシン, and if we were to boot off one of the current mainstays, I would sooner pick 裏表 or magnet.

Aside from my opinion on mainstays, we’ve had a strange trend in the last couple of VocaRans: previously dead songs coming back from the grave. This week’s are Chain Girl (understandable because of this week’s number 2 song, perhaps), 天雪ノ乱舞 and ハルコイウタ, neither of which have any real explanation, and the latter of which is a year old.

So… what is going on, exactly? I’m not sure, but perhaps the reason will reveal itself in time. Until then, I’ll be watching from the sidelines, looking for an answer and checking to see if the strange trend continues.

…And so with that, we end this week’s Vocaloid Ranking review. Please join us again next week, and stay tuned for Conan the UTAU girls after this!

  1. Well…crap, I forgot to comment yesterday. In fact, I didn't get around to watching the ranking until several hours later than normal. So, I'll probably put up my thoughts later today, but I have to ask: what's everyone got against this week? I'd say I like it because Romeo and Cindarella fell off, but then I'd most likely be murdered by someone.

  2. USB Miku is cute.
30 – I shall now use my Paradichlorobenzene-resurrectiong powers. But not too much or it'll stay too long.
    29 – Whuuuuuuuut.
    28 – Daaaaah!
27 – I want it off the countdown. It's bad enough that there are recurring regulars but this is a spinoff of a current song parodying an anime.
26 – My friend had this stuck in her head the other day.
    25 – Fuuuuuuuuuuuuun…
24 – Song got picked up huh.
23 – My powers were too strong on this one. This is my fault.
22 – I agree, this was an awesome song and I'm considering putting it on my iPod.
21 – Why'd it jump? Not that I have anything against this song.
    20 – Meh boring song.
19 – Don't know why. Wish it would replace magnet.
18 – Gumi's voicebank itself is very unwieldy and this is the typical unedited result. Obviously not the result of excruciating hard work.
17 – Luka looks nice in that picture.
16 – It was Kiyoteru; he's the butler. It's always the butler.
    15 – …typical and forgettable.
    14 – Translation plz?
13 – I didn't hear this song. You heard me right?
    12 – Fanservicey Miku much?
11 – Rollin' Girl should always be higher than this song, seriously; it deserves more. Only proves that the majority of the people on Nico are perverts who like a song about Miku getting pregnant.
    Pick-Up – Cute. And typical.
10 – It's Signal-P, and it's rather epic. Kind of like his more top-notch songs (like Cendrillon).
9 – Now THIS is what I call a wowaka song!
    8 – Yandere Miku much?
    7 – Interesting voice fluctuation, but a little boring and a little…off.
    6 – Kinda blurry-type for me.
    5 – Interesting background composition.
    4 – Interesting…pattern.
History – Unknown song, Roshin Yuukai, mysterious Kaito song, Sakura no Ame, and my favorite, Noroi no Megane. I still love that song – I especially love the way the glasses just fall off in the end.
    3 – Rather simplistic song.
    2 – Interesting song…kinda…interesting. That's all I can say.
1 – cosMo loves Motor Mouth! Really! Now I need a translation and an answer to "WTF is this?"
    …interesting, strange ranking…that's about it.

  3. I got my comment here on time. It's still Tuesday because I said so.

30: Looks like Kiyoteru will never get a successful song. It's not very memorable anyways, so I don't care if it leaves.
29: The background music to songs like these usually have too much going on in them. This is no exception.
28: Tired of this one. I was tired of this one months ago.
27: It just doesn't want to die.
    26: Getting kinda old.
25: I think I've ran out of things to say about this.
24: I like this one, it was one of the better pickups.
23: I, for one, am glad this has such staying power.
    22: That's one.
21: One of the few hit songs that I never really bothered to listen to. It's alright.
20: Why must everyone abuse random English words in their titles, P names, et cetera, merely because they sound cool?
19: Looks like it recovered from that monumental drop it got. I'm impressed.
18: Bleh. Gumi's not too good in this one.
17: So this is the only recovering sakura song? I expected more.
16: I can barely hear this one now.
15: It IS just another Miku song to me.
14: I can't think of much to say about this. It's okay, but forgettable.
13: Is this going to be here until the end of time?
    12: Boring-ish. Is that a word?
11: Due to having a lack of things left to say about this, I will reply to Aster: The main appeal here is the fast pace and catchiness, and pregnancy isn't even the focus of the song. It's about Miku expressing her discomfort that she's trapped in a purely sexual relationship.
Pickup: Looks like it would be more at home in the earlier seasons.
    10: Two.
9: One of the few really good songs being made these days.
8: Gotta love that subtitle. Subtle, Miku. Very subtle.
    7: Three.
6: Decent, but not something I'd listen to.
    5: Nice painting.
4: And that's four – counting the post-30 meido song, five – Rin songs where the pictures are nice but the song is throwaway. I will be the one to say AAAAAAAARGH.
H5: This was kinda mediocre until CATS! CAAAAAAATS
H4: I will never get tired of this.
H3: A bit of a different Kaito song.
    H2: Where did this go?
H1: This one does get a little tiring if I hear it too often, but since I haven't heard it in a while, it's bounced its way to greatness again.
3: I read that this one is way better if you understand the lyrics, but I don't. So I will refrain from having an opinion on this.
2: Since I haven't listened to much Chain Girl, I don't have a negative reaction when it hits the chorus, so I can like it. It's great, in my opinion.
1: And another great song makes its debut! I expect this to stay for at least five weeks.

A good week if you count Confusion's debut and Romeo and Cinderella's death as good points, like me. Otherwise, yeah, it's pretty odd.
