Vocaloid NND Weekly Ranking
Weekly Vocaloid Ranking #142 “Unselected”

Lemme just make this as short as possible: I’m swamped with work (I even took some of it home for me to work on later), so I probably won’t be able to watch this week’s VocaRan until tomorrow at the very least. Still, somebody has to keep publishing these articles and other Vocaloid-related news like it, otherwise we’d lose our credibility as a Vocaloid news blog.

So now we’ll start looking for other Vocaloid fans who are enthusiastic enough to take part in our community. The qualifications are simple: has to be good at creating interesting articles and publish them on time. As for the VocaRan articles, cooperation with the other editors is also key. deztora/rebecca will translate Naho’s statements (though rebecca is kinda MIA at the moment), red2/JM will analyze the results (if they’re available), while the rest can comment on the individual song on the ranking.

To anyone interested, you can post your comments on this very article or you can register at our forums.

Naho’s Opening Statement:

The time has come for this week’s VocaRan! GUMI-san! Happy birthday! Please continue to reach us with your amazing singing voice!

Having said that, in celebration of GUMI’s birthday, a lot of new songs have been uploaded!? Also, the end of June means more birthdays…!? And with all that going on, there is this week’s ranking.

Well then, this week as well, let’s start viewing from number 30 onward. Douzo!!

  • THIS WEEK IN HISTORY: (WVR #90)
This spot is for a look back at the VocaRan one year before. Here are the top five songs from that week.

    • H5: Since Roshin Yuukai will be making an appearance in Project Diva 2nd, I guess I forget all that “Meltdown effect” fiasco I did almost a year ago. I’m a happy man now.  Somewhat ironic, considering this week’s Top 30
    • H4: <no comment>
    • H3: In the name of the…nevermind
    • H2: <no comment>
    • H1: Ahh, classic Oster Project. Makes me smile.
  • #3: 【巡音ルカ】Heart Beats【オリジナル】【VOCALOID】 (–)
This is pure J-pop: fun, upbeat, and kickin’ bass. I like it.
  • #2: 【ミクAppend】キャンディアディクトフルコォス【オリジナル曲】 (!!)
Why must the opening guitar riff be so awesome and the rest of the song be meh? D: (Okay, that’s not true.  It’s like some corrupted surf rock thing, and that’s pretty neat, but still) It’s underwhelming. I was expecting more… oomph, but it never really builds up to anything. Still good, of course, just not as great as it could be.
  • #1: 【初音ミク】 GALLOWS BELL 【オリジナル!】 (!!)
Fun little pop rock number.  Probably forgettable, but it’s pleasant on the ears. Agreed. And the illustration for the video is beautiful as well. Pretty PV + good song – typical Miku voice = win? It would be so much more awesome if it were sung by a different Vocaloid…

In Other Vocaloid News:

As one of the birthdays appearing at the end of the month, I, Naho, will celebrate my 2nd birthday on July 1st. If you think about it, it was just the legs at first…

From here on out, thank you for continuing to have me and the VocaRan. With that, here is the rest from this week, starting with 31.

Final Thoughts/Analysis:

This. Week. Was. Bizarre. If anyone can link me to the 2ch thread where they decided “Let’s mess with the Weekly Vocaloid Rankings!”, I would most appreciate it. It even pushed out JBF, and I thought if any 門番 was safe, JBF was it.

Yeah, my only explanation was trolling, as well.  It really didn’t affect me, since the worst of the songs were fair to middling, but there has to be a better use of your time than to mess around with something as trivial as viral video rankings.

…And so with that, we end this week’s Vocaloid Ranking review. Please join us again next week, and now I’m off to work on those Excel sheets. I swear, automating HMOs will be the bane of my existence.

  1. my gosh I love this week
    my favorite songs returns
like paradichclorobenzene, clock lock works and stray girl in her lenses
and there is less wowaka 😀

  2. Dang, what happened this week? It was a nostalgia week. It was like this ranking was in 2008 or 2009. Interesting ranking.

  3. D: i havent seen that JBF went down D:!
and was gumi birthday and Coward montblanc Down ¬¬
    soo bad

  4. Hahaha I’d love to know what all the old songs were about.
Wish there weren’t so many, though, because there’s a few new songs that would have made it on the ranking if the old songs weren’t there, but seeing old favorites is nice.
Last Night Good Night, stray girl in her lenses, bird of paradise 😀

As for new songs, that cover of Dearest is amazing.
Dearest is yuukiss’s specialty song haha.
As for the top 3… I’m not sure. I kinda like them, but at the same time I can’t completely get into them.
Glad to see World’s End Dancehall out of the top 3, though. I love that song, but it needs to step back for new songs!

  5. >my only explanation was trolling

i think it could be related to an article on mikublog that talk about the most viewed songs on NND.
if someone have the time could check if the links are related to the chart.

  6. The reason why the old song got pulled up most probably because of Dreamy Theater release… Except that one Gakupo's song, Eh, ah Sou? and 16 Bit War. EAS' reasong is because it's basically the new Rolling Girl on Utattemita Ranking (read: people covers it like crazy, seeing the top two in the last week's Utattemita ranking were EAS covers).

-Yuukiss is still awesome as always (The bonus "preview " song is good too~)
-I liked Number two… Then again, I love Machigerita-P's works.

    1. I thought it might be related to Dreamy Theater, but I knew it didn't fit with all of them because there are no Internet Co. Vocaloids in the Project Diva game/s. So I thought it might be related to something else (like a thread on 2ch).

Eh, Ah, Sou? being pulled up for the utatte mita makes sense. The song by itself is not that good. I imagine it might actually sound tolerable if it was sung by other singers.

      I'm a huge fan of Machigeriita-P too, which is partly why I was disappointed that number 2 didn't have as much of an impact as I thought it might. It's still good, but it could be GREAT. Ah well. ^^;

  7. Hi, I'd like to help out with the articles on this site. I've been a fan of Vocaloids since my sister showed me "Crazy Clown" over a year ago. Since then, I have listened to many different songs, from big ones like "Love is War" to obscure ones like Gumi's "Excalibur".
Even though I get most of my Vocaloid news from here, I also get some from the Vocaloid Wiki to direct news from Bing translated japanese pages. I check Vocaloidism almost daily and the only times I don't check are when I don't have a computer to go on, or when I'm preoccupied with schoolwork.

  8. I am really good with keeping track of data and statistics. For instance, I've kept track of "World's End Dancehall" since its first week. This is what I have so far:
    2010For the Week% ChangeCumulative HitsPosition
    #138414,265 – 414,2651
    #139234,001-43.51% 648,2661
    #140161,589-30.95% 809,8552
    #141135,818-15.95% 945,6732
    #142138,482 +1.96%1,084,1552
    #143109,727-20.76%1,193,8824
(sorry if the chart doesn't look good when it's posted; it looked perfectly aligned when I typed it)

  9. I'm also good with analysis. For instince, I've noticed how most brand new songs on the WVR tend to get most of its points (60%-80%) from comments and MyLists which usually leads to weak second weeks. After their first week, those same categories combined make only 10%-30% in most songs. I've also noticed that many songs tend to be on the WVR for one to three weeks.
One of the things about what I write is that I tend to keep it short and sweet (this is long for me usually). I can also be witty and somewhat humorous when I write (except on TVTropes where it would usually be out of place most of the time; I'm known as Pokénatic [Pokenatic on my contributor page] on it, but sometimes it ends up as unknown Poknatic, well, last time I checked)
I'm not sure how much of an impact I'll leave on this site, but I'll try to contribute as much as I possibly can.
So that's it for tonight. Thanks for your consideration. If you want to contact me, my e-mail is [email protected], or you can message me on Neopets.com (I'm Toymaster7777777 on that)

  10. I'm torn between laughing at the sheer amount of old stuff jumping back to the top 30 and crying since there's so little Gumi songs in the top 30 despite it being her birthday. Anyway, I thought #3 was gonna be JBF when I heard the intro.

  11. In the Heart Beats video/art, Luka is wearing Ultrasone Edition 8 headphones. For those who don't know, they're $1500 headphones.

    Luka be pimping.

  12. Well, since GUMI's birthday came so late in the week, there's a good chance you'll see more in next week's vocaran instead.
JBF should be getting a bump too next week, since it's 1st anniversary is July 4th.

    1. This was in reference to Naho only showing her legs when she started appearing in the VocaRans. Dig back and you will know.

  13. I suppose I should help out at this blog more, but constantly life gets in the way and I end up slowing up…I should really tidy up my UTAUran performance before I even consider working for this blog full-time.

  14. I was really surprised/happy to see Gokurakuchou -bird of paradise- in the ranking, since it was, and still is one of my favorite Vocaloid songs.
But yes. This week was exceedingly bizarre. If it was trolling, either they got an asinine number of people on board or they did a bad job choosing bad songs. I mean, if I were a troll, I'd only choose bad songs. Not Gokurakuchou or Megurihime or LNGN.
