Despite the song’s upbeat music, the lyrics start off as somewhat depressing, speaking of love as something people price and sell (or even as “tasteless gum” that is thrown to the ground), while the singer stays by herself, even stating that her “bare self” is “disgraceful.” The song goes on to say that life is a voyage called “regret” and the obstacles are “Mind, Virtue, and Legislation.” However, the song does end with love being called a hard-to-crack rock and thus the singer does not want a diamond. This could be interpreted as love is not always empty, but it is never easy to find or understand. What do our readers thing the song’s lyrics actually mean?
