Happy 1st Birthday, Lily!

That’s right people, it’s been one whole year since this blonde lady invaded our ears. Won’t you join us in celebrating her past year?

Lily was INTERNET Co.,Ltd’s third Vocaloid, after Gakupo and GUMI, and her voice is supplied by Masuda Yuri of the Japanese band m.o.v.e. Her character designer is KEI (who also designed the Crypton Vocaloids). She is different in the fact that her design originally appeared in August of 2009 on the cover of m.o.v.e’s anime theme song cover album, “anim.o.v.e 01” as a personification of the lead singer. It wasn’t until May of the next year that a Vocaloid (originally called “Code Name: Lily”) was introduced in the DTM MAGAZINE. Two demos were released on her product page before release, both being covers and remixes of m.o.v.e songs (with Gakupo on the rapping vocals). A music video starring her and companion Mosh titled “Schwarzgazer” was released on both Nico Nico Douga and YouTube, however the vocals were done by the group m.o.v.e, not the Vocaloid. It is interesting to note that the video contains both the Japanese text version and an English one.

Her release saw multiple related promotional products as well, which included t-shirts, mugs, straps, and other various products. She also got a 1/8 figurine by Phat Company. Her products are still being released and can be acquired at stores such as AmiAmi and Hobby Search.

Alongside Gakupo and GUMI, Lily was announced for release in Taiwan in December of 2010. She has also received her own Twitter account and official website.

Now let us look at some of Lily’s most popular songs.

  1. lily is awesome. It’s a pitty people don’t use her more. It would be a nice change to hear some of these more obscure vocaloids like lily and kiyoteru rather than having the millions of miku and gumi songs uploaded everyday.

  2. Dawww Lily she need’s to be used more she really has a lot of great song’s but never get the attention >.<
even though a year passed it doesn't fell like it feel's like she came out 5 months ago anyway's H-B-Lily !

  3. Thanks for the samples Bunny, I tried to listen again and seriously no matter how hard P’s are editing her, Lily sound like the most flawed Vocaloid 2 voicebank ever released, I’d rather listen to Gatchapoid 😛

  4. I think part of the reason why Lily isnt as popular as the other vocaloids is there isnt an album with her only singing in it. plus there isnt a lot of fan art and original songs made with her for some reason or maybe it could also just be that, since people may not know right away how to use her right, other vocaloid producers just didn’t have time to learn new voices. If i was to make a good album with Lily singing in it, that could change her popularity for the better perhaps…just as DECO27 promoted GUMI and using her in his albums with good execution. just my two cents.

  5. I agree on the voicebank issue, and it doesn’t help that her voice has no distinct characteristic; a vocaloid that sounds too similar to another vocaloid(s) is doomed to gain less popularity. So far Lily is the only of the lesser-known vocaloids that hasn’t been used by Neki-P (the one who did A Whole New World), so I guess she must be pretty hard to use.

    1. I think you mean Konki-P.

I dunno, I think her voice is pretty unique. She’s just technically awful.

Glitches not withstanding, Lily’s voice samples are terrible quality.
Kinda like the Kagamine Act 1, except there’s no Act 2 for Lily
in sight… And now that I think about it, I’d really like to hear a
good Act 1 producer work with her, like Live-P or Giga-P.

ANYWAY HAPPY B-D LILY WE ALL HOPE YOU GET TO SING MOAR

  6. The western fandom has never let her (bad) demo go away.  I know several who base their overall opinion of her on it.

  7. 🙁 I love Lily, but its so hard to find her songs, let alone songs where people have truly been able to master her voice. I like her voice, it is very unique and completely different than Miku’s who I hear all the time. I think difficulty using her vouce made a lot of people hesitate on purchasing her or continuing to use her…i hope she eventually pull a larger fanbase!

  8. Anyone knows a store where I as a european can buy fan goods of her. I saw a lot of them on her homepage, but there everything is japanese which I can neither get correctly shown, nor would I be able to order anything on japanese.
I would like the Dektop Case and the coffe cup of her.
