Crypton Hints at Bilingual VOCALOID3 and Robots on Twitter

The VOCALOID news blog Hatsune Miku Miku brings up an interesting collection of tweets made this month from @vocaloid_cv_cfm about projects currently in planning. Of note are hints at a VOCALOID3 KAITO that supports both Japanese and English, as well as multiple female English soundbanks being in production.

The following is a quick translation of the listed tweets (note: tweets are in chronological order but are not necessary contiguous in time):

We had a rare full hands meeting with YAMAHA last week to talk future development, report current progress and have general discussions.
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
Currently have a meeting with Family Mart HQ about a big project. We might be able to put into motion a plan for the year heralding “music” and “fan requests”!
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
Tonight’s meeting concerning a new proposal is quite tough, considering how much responsibility is being heaped on me. If I don’t hone my mind and step up to the challenge, I know I’d definitely regret it later. Google and Family Mart were big players, but this time it’s really up there.
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
Concerning another project, we had a discussion with a manufacturer with brand recognition about developing a general-purpose [ed: possibly industrial?] robot. (Music and sound were involved as well.) If all goes well, within the year… RT @sugipack Regarding your previous tweet, I was imagining perhaps they wanted to talk to you about using Miku’s voice for the Japanese Siri lol
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
A plan involving MEIKO and Magic Spice HQ — I need to get this up within a few hours…
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
Currently having a meeting with Mr. Gotou from AIST in the Crypton meeting room.
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
After having a discussion with AIST’s Mr. Gotou, various thoughts continued to echo around, lingering in my mind. It made me think of a lot of things… (things…)
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
Recently, I’ve been listening English KAITO voice tracks all day long, which explains my strange state of mind.
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
<Emergency Request> VOCALOID Ps whose favorites are male English voicebanks
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
We have lot of solicitations out this week. Looking forward to working with you!
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
We are also working on multiple English [voicebanks] so please take a shot when the next time comes! @nechogusha [Was a discussion about the process for participating in development of VOCALOID soundbanks and how nechogusha has only used Luka before in terms of English voicebanks.]
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
About that English KAITO matter, we’ve also been contacted by VOCALOID Ps living overseas. Thank you.
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
Thanks to everyone who informed us about illegal activities with regards to Hatsune Miku (the software program) the day before yesterday. That problem has been rectified for now.
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
Currently having a meeting about the release schedule for [upcoming] products.
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
    There’s three left.
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
Receiving a report on English KAITO. This week will be adjustments of diphthongs and small adjustments to VV [two vowel phonemes next to each other].
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
With the solicitation last week, we received a lot of encouragement from several overseas producers. Thank you.
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
Mr. Fuuga has had training as a jazz vocalist, so things went really smoothly. RT @KGN_works Waiting with bated breath. Sounds like it would’ve been hard recording if he weren’t a versatile entertainer. That’s Mr. Fuuga for you, being a veteran and all.
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
We recently permission to release some information, so we’ll be tweeting about V3KAITO little by little RT @mkiri Always enjoying and looking forward to the continuous progress.
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
We’re going ahead on both fronts~ RT @kogekabocha Don’t tell me it’ll support both Japanese and English?!
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
I guess ’cause there’s a big difference in usability between Japanese and English…
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
A Hatsune Miku robot… so awesome. I can feel a potential above and beyond the Pa*censored*Ro Project.
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
Actually, I’d like one for my place. It would be so useful.
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
We’d like assistance from GSC for a part of the cockpit of the prototype, so I’m going to call up Mr. Aki and put in my all to convince him!
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
(Crap, I’m so excited that I might have broken the NDA… To everyone at the development research center, Sorry!)
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
Sorry for making everyone worried. Since I haven’t let a particular word slip my tongue, I’m technically okay, but it might not have a good effect on the other party’s image, so I’m writing an apology email… RT @z_n_c_890_P
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
Things are flashing by so fast today with a brainstorming session with airport personnel about future endeavors as well as correspondence with a singer-songwriter from the UK who I really like.
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
Personally, I feel it’s a “project with longevity and acceptance” that holds possibilities for the future. I’m full of gratitude that the other party decided to speak with us. RT @ejiwarp Anyway, I’m looking forward to it. [talking about the project similar to the Pa*censored*Ro Project]
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
Currently listening to a DJ mix for use with a Family Mart deployment. It’s very refreshing! What’s with these fish scales flowing out of my eyes… I’m strongly wondering why such content deployments are so rare.
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
Even so, this producer’s sound design is really quite loud… It’s probably better to listen to this through something better than the speakers that come in convenience stores (I guess that’s obvious…)
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
Uuu… My heart’s aflame about things, even including this rough stuff. I’ll throw this into the iphone…
  • vocaloid_cv_cfm
Hey! Please do! RT @akitakanori @vocaloid_cv_cfm Ooh?? We’ll do anything! lol

  1. I’d guess that the multiple female English soundbanks in development would be referring to English Miku and Luka Append. The real question is when exactly any of this stuff is going to be released, come /on/ Crypton.

  2. Airports?  Family Mart? The AIST (big tech research center in Japan)? A Miku robot (something beyond the HRP-4C tech perhaps).  A restaurant?  A UK singer/songwriter?  A cockpit for a prototype (Is Miku going into a car)? A comment that Google and Famima were “big players” but now he’s concerned about something even bigger?  What, like an entire television network or some giant brand name?

I can’t wrap my head around the shear scale of what’s happening at Crypton and various businesses and entities …

    1.  last news comes from the Anime/comic conventions the CFM execs attended last year. They got asked about CV04 and they said it was lower priority than their hotter projects but they were still working on it. also their head vocaloid digital sound tech updated one of his social media personal profiles and left the bit about working on CV04 unchanged.

  3. CFM has been far too much inconspicuous these last months esp. with all the new stuff around V3 and all these new voicebanks released by their competitors. I really hope they’ll blow our mind, but because of their voicebanks quality and more specifically Miku.

    1.  just following up: The CFM head tech guy tweeted  yesterday at least aspirational will to work on an English VB for Meiko. it’s something that at the very least they want to do. And it is possibly more than just aspirational. Japanese is hard to translate. it could mean they are working on it and it could mean they want to in the future. Itoh expressed apsirations to do Meiko english to about three months ago. so thats the two main CFM decision makers saying they want English Meiko.

  4. I’m really interested about what happened to CV-04. Is HE still being developed or was Crypton only kidding about the new male voicebank? It’s been 2 years since he was last tweeted…

    1.  possibly. there will be a lot of competitive pressure on the remaining vocaloid company hold outs now that CFM and IC vocaloids are going english. the question is how well are they positioned to do so rapidly. do they have the technical ability to do so or do they need to hire more english savy staff or consultants? do they have access to the necessary phoneme lists? will the VA agree to the extra work needed? do the senior execs have the will to do so or will they need to be persuaded by market share pressure?

  5.  Wa! Meiko and Kaito in english are grat news,… but what I want is some information about CV04! T_T
They are really needing some new male voice!
