Welp, it finally happened: I burned myself out from work and now I’m too tired to stay up to watch this week’s WVR. I’ll just hand the rest of the editing to the other staff. I’ll try to make up to you guys next week… or whenever SP5 pops up. Oh, and somebody bring me Crofesima’s resume for reviewing… some tasty hirings may be in order.

About the rankings this week, it’s a no-brainer that wowaka‘s awesome World’s End Dancehall will land on the Top-1 spot.

Naho’s Opening Statement:

Everyone, good evening. It’s time for this week’s VocaRan.

After last week’s VocaRan, the space probe “Akatsuki” safely launched into space! Congratulations!

Meanwhile, a lot of other big things happening this week… And a record being broken as well. Well, the true essence of it is… what is it, I wonder?

Well then let’s begin; here’s this week’s powerful ranking. Let’s start from thirty as usual.

-Song Stats: Up (↑), Down (↓), Unmoved (→), Unranked (–), New (!!)

In Other Vocaloid News:

If the big album “Vocalogenesis” released on March 19th s-somehow made it to number one on the Oricon weekly chart…! Although we can’t really do anything here, the tension is high… If it became number one… that’d be a great accomplishment!

Also, this news pertains to July, but… ryo(supercell) and kz(livetune) are releasing the DIVA2 songs “Kocchi Muite Baby/yellow” as a single. But what if… if that Oricon’s… The weekly single chart and the album chart both getting number one spots, I wonder if something like that could really happen…

On that tense note, here are the songs from 31 onward.

((Also, I didn’t exactly dissect the whole thing, but the part at the end was an apology for not uploading SP5 when it was supposed to be uploaded back in April (I think?) and the plan is now to upload SP5 in September and make it count songs in the range of the year instead (I believe?). I’ll try to actually go over it more to check and see if this is the case when I’m not feeling so bad.))

Final Thoughts/Analysis:

I’m normally more eloquent than this, but I’ve been in a bad place recently, so I’ll make this brief. Was wowaka’s latest song worthy of getting number one? Perhaps. That’s debatable. Was it worthy of getting so many views and mylists in such a short amount of time? Definitely not. The base of the song is still the safe little 裏表 clone, and the only great thing about this song is the chorus– both musically and the way Miku and Luka’s voices are blended (they sound really good together here). It’s not enough for them to deserve over a million points. That’s my stance.

A lot of shuffling around this week, with hardly any newcomers in the first twenty, and almost all new songs in the top ten. This was ‘prominent producer releases a new song’ week, apparently, and I had really hoped to see the top three be ジミー, OSTER and wowaka (not necessarily in that order). It got close, but… Lobelia’s popularity… I’m a bit surprised by it, since I thought the song was so-so when I listened to it the first time. And the second time. I certainly didn’t think it would trump ジミーサム and OSTER for the number two spot.

Really, this was a week for strange tastes all around, from WEDH’s bizzare and mostly undeserved popularity to Lobelia beating out Ladies First and Genesis. Although the rankings were weird, there are a lot of good new songs on it, so overall, despite the top two, I’d say this was a pretty good week.

…And so with that, we end this week’s Vocaloid Ranking review. Please join us again next week, and <Sorry. We’re closed>.

  1. I know what you mean, Holocauxt, I'm busy as hell too.

Also, "World's End Dancehall" is absolutely AWESOME, I'm addicted to this song like woah (almost 500k hits, go wowaka~).

  2. Why does everyone love World’s End Dancehall?
And this is coming from someone who loves World’s End Dancehall!

What voodoo attraction spell did wowaka cast on it to get the denizens of nico nico to flock to his song? I bet it’s in the chorus.

    1. I think it is the chorus, I like the opening of the song, but as soon as it gets to the chorus, I'm hooked at the "Hop and a step" and on.

I love Wowaka, and I personally think he might be the next Wowaka

  3. ….So is there any explanation as to why World's End Dancehall has three times as many comments as mylists? It's highly unusual. There's quite a lot of discussion going on at World's End Dancehall's nicopedia entry. I wish I could understand what they're talking about. :/

  4. I don't get the appeal of wowaka songs. It's the same rehash of the melody since Uraomote Lovers and Rolling Girl.

Anyone know if World's End Dancehall has any relation to those other World's End songs (by Hachi)?

  5. This isn't the first time an ED got in the top 30. I think there were at least three instances beforehand.

As for World's End Dancehall, I didn't think much of it at first, but listening to it again, it's actually a real good song. I guess the "it's way too Ura-Omote" feeling was preventing me from enjoying it at first. I like the instrumentals and verses, but the chorus seems to be a bit weak. I don't know why, but somehow it lacks the catchy appeal of his others. Still fun to listen to despite that.

Someone actually proved it's similarity to Ura-Omote in this link. Not that I'm complaining. I don't really think it's 'undeserved', since he DID go through the effort of making a song. It's just his style and the eventual way that the music would sound a lot like Ura-Omote. I once again re-iterate don't get how it's 'undeserved', since I'm allowed to enjoy songs made by him for FREE, and he's not really getting paid except for the album releases, which you're not really forced to buy.

It's also a pretty damn good song, but sure, it's Ura-Omote-ish and I think that's the driving force of discontent. But then again, both songs were made by him and released for FREE, which makes we wonder if we're getting too complacent and taking free creation for granted, actually refuting it because it sounds similiar to what the Producer made last time. I think it better to lash words like 'undeserved' at songs who rip off from other producers than those who rip off from his own creation.

If people want to know why wowaka's songs get so many views, it's because of fanbase. Ever had that feel that when a certain song has a VERY nice feel to it, and you like it so much that listening to it on eternal repeat doesn't hit the right satisfaction, or wish that this certain song just lasted, "One more chorus…" or was longer in general? That's what the wowaka Fanbase is feeling with WEDH, which whether you like it or not, is what hits the spot for the majority of his fans. More Ura-Omote-styled music.

The rankings are simple. They show what is mostly yearned by fans. There is no 'undeserved' location in my opinion.

    1. I never said it wasn't a good song. It is. I've listened to it on repeat. I would say it definitely deserves to be somewhere in the top three (in fact, I DID say that *points above*).

I'm saying the fact that it got over four hundred thousand views and way over ten percent of that in mylists in one week is undeserved, because the song is good, but it's NOT THAT GOOD. Also, listening to a song on repeat doesn't equal more views; it's only counted as one view. And it doesn't explain the unusually high mylist modifier– which, I imagine, if we were still under the old scoring system, would be much, much lower.

There have always been songs that have gotten more popular than perhaps they should have. What I'm saying is I cannot for the life of me find the reason for this song's popularity. Is it wowaka is using Luka, ohmigosh? Is it the chorus? Is it the guitar? Is it the lyrics? The lyrics are cool and all but… With all popular songs, there's some driving factor. Even if I don't like the song itself, I can look at it and go, okay, this is why so many people like it. WEDH isn't doing anything that makes it different, so what does it have? What makes it record-shatteringly special?

It's a good song of course, but it's just that: another good song.

  7. I personally loved the number 5 song. it's really catchy, and I can listen to it over and over. X3

  8. I can't understand how World's End Dancehall won over Lobelia. I think that it was rigged, just look at the points. A lame late April Fool's Day joke at the end of May? Lol

    1. I think it has more to do with whenever you hear World’s End Dancehall, you immedia-ALL HAIL WOWAKA! ALL HAIL WOWAKA! ALL HAIL WOWAKA! ALL HAIL WOWAKA! ALL HAIL WOWAKA! ALL HAIL WOWAKA! ALL HAIL WOWAKA! ALL HAIL WOWAKA! @_@

      1. Lobelia gets your attention though, World's End Dancehall is nice but it doesn't have a good video which even if the song is great, these days the video is just as important. I'm really shocked most of all about the points it got and how it got so many.

  9. i think i had contributed 20 views,20 comments and 2 mylists to dancehall.. haha.. i've been watching it since the day it was uploaded, so i think rigging was impossible. everyone's spamming the comment, so even if you typed something there, you would not find it there after just few minutes, due to 250-comment limit.
