If you’ve been following the blog lately, and I know you have, the Miku Comes to Los Angeles article has become inundated with updates, so many that it’s become completely impossible to get any information from it.  So here’s a handy guide to the news, events, and guests of AnimeExpo 2011.

The dream team of Toyota Motor Sales, Crypton Future Media, and Sega have launched a campaign to bring Miku to the states.  Toyota’s already put out commercials and sent flash mobs throughout New York, and now Miku is coming to AnimeExpo during their 20th Anniversary, The Year of the Fan.  Miku has gotten an all new look for the event (as shown above) and for the first time, congoers can get a taste of what Miku looks like in person using the holographic technology used by the Thanks Giving Day concert at Zepp Tokyo, along with the original live band, and even Rin, Len, and Luka will be there.  That must be one full plane.

The concert, titled Mikunopolis, has been booked for July 2nd at 8:30 PM at the Nokia Theatre.  Within two weeks, the concert was completely sold out, stunning everyone that all 7100 seats were filled.  However, only 3500 seats were reserved, the technicians that are bringing the feature didn’t take into account the balcony, as Zepp Tokyo doesn’t have one that worked for them.  They’re trying to figure out if attendees would be able to see the stage properly, and if so, more tickets may be made available.  Don’t lose hope everyone that didn’t get a ticket, we may still have some for you!  The price of tickets is $15 per person, and you must have purchased a convention badge to be able to reserve or attend.

And if you don’t have a ticket, NicoNicoDouga is going to stream it live! The live stream costs 1,500 NicoPoints ($18 US) if you use WebMoney. If you need to learn how to use WebMoney, read this Vocaloidism ThreadThe website states that for every online viewing ticket purchased, you will get a gift code to share with someone else, so they can watch the event for free.  That’s two live-stream tickets for the price of one! A more accurate translation of the bonus service is pending.

Of course just being there to perform isn’t enough for Miku.  She’s AX’s first ever Virtual Guest of Honor, and she’s bringing a ton of friends with her to take in the US air (actually she’s flying Tokyo Air, but whatever).  Her “parents,” Crypton CEO Hiroyuki Itoh and Executive Producer Wataru Sasaki are also guests of honor.  Toshihiro Fukuoka, Tokyo Kawaii Magazine Editor who gave Miku a huge boost in print media, will be helping MC Danny Choo at all the Vocaloid Panels.  She also brought some of the P’s along!  sunzriver (“Sakasama Rainbow”), Penguins Project (“Chocolate Train”), and even Onyx Koboyashi (“Saihate”) will be around to sign autographs and take questions.  As if that wasn’t enough, the three ZANEEDS were invited too!  They’ll be DJing a dance at the convention.  Speaking of dancing, you can’t have music without dance, and who better to demonstrate than DANCEROID!  Some of the hit Youtube dancing sensation group will be attending and judging contests!  If there were a Vocaloid Price is Right, this would be the Good Showcase!

  1. "Sakashima Rainbow" -> "Sakasama Rainbow"

Also, I don't know this person, but I'd bet Mikuyi Sawashiro -> Miyuki Sawashiro. Just got a feeling.

What I REALLY want to know is if any of the Ps will have their CDs for sale at the con. I'd really, really like to buy them, and I'd bet I'm not the only one.

    1. I'm sure they are! Penguins Project said he's selling Quee Quee (not a vocaloid CD) and I think another producer is selling something (I dont' remember is it was sunzriver or Zaneeds)

  2. Ah, would love to see the concert Live , but broke at the moment T_T. If a kind soul has a bonus ticket that he do not know what to do with, I'll show you my eternal gratitude! d(^o^)b

While waiting for the concert, I invite you to read some articles I wrote on Vocaloid. Introduction, Examples, and Ideas on what Vocaloid will bring to us in the future:

Article #1 "Hatsune Miku : Talent Ambassador"
Article #2 "How to appreciate foreign language songs : Example of Japanese with Vocaloid"
Article #3 "Vocaloid's Future : The missing link in Music Creation"

  3. Ah, would love to see the concert Live , but broke at the moment T_T. If a kind soul has a bonus ticket that he do not know what to do with, I'll show you my eternal gratitude! d(^o^)b

  4. Urg. Wish i could go. I might be watching via live stream from Nico Nico, I think you should include that somewear in the article, although the cost to watch the stream of the event is more than an actual concert ticket XD

  5. I'm also presenting a talk on Vocaloid in the new AX Anime & Manga Studies Symposium. It's on Sunday at 10:30am in the Symposium's "Open Session 4," being held in LP5 (aka. LACC 408B). The talk's entitled "'Open-Source Culture' and the Cult of Hatsune Miku."

  6. I think you meant "Sakasama Rainbow", not "Sakashima". And it's "Miyuki" Sawashiro, not "Mikuyi" Sawashiro. Just letting you know!

  7. So I purchased a ticket – how do I give someone the spare? (Sorry to anyone in this thread, I have some people that might already be interested). I can't quite figure it out.

And is the spare for the 3rd or a week delay? It seems to say 7/10.

  8. man I hope they have another concert at la again. dang I was about to go too, oh well family comes first

  9. Very nice article redemption, thanks for this neat update.

I see some readers already pointed out the usual typos (i.e. 逆さま & Sawashiro), but I would like to add that you should be consistent with the given name / surname order when naming the guests (yeah somewhat nitpicking) but I think it's important to keep track of that, as a matter of reputation for the blog who should be better than the mainstream media not aware of Japanese naming order.
So you would need to write Itoh Hiroyuki & Sasaki Wataru, on the over hand you used the right order for Toshihiro Fukuoka, Onyx Kobayashi & Miyuki Sawashiro.

    Have a nice concert !

  10. It's times like these where I wish I didn't live on the east coast of the U.S. To those who are going to really immerse themselves in the American Vocaloid fan experience, have fun!

  11. Just got a ticket to the NND live stream! I could't make it to the concert because I live on the other side of the world, so needless to say I'm extremely jealous of those who can attend the concert. Oh well, a live stream is better than nothing.

  12. This just in: I haven’t heard anything in particular related to Wowaka (of “Rolling Girl” and “World’s End Dance Hall” fame) in reference to AX, but according to his Twitter account he arrived in Los Angeles this evening. Could he be one of the super secret guests at the Mirai no Neiro panel?

  13. >///3///< I wanted to see len D: !! And idk if my mom would want to pay for livestream ._________. …. HMM maybe my sister… [thinks] i might need to think this over D:>""

  14. Please someone send me a spare gift ticket my card won’t work to buy the virtual ticket and I’m getting desperate please! If you do I shall be eternally greatful my e-mail is [email protected] thank you in advance if someone is kind!

  15. Don't think the ticket comes with a "free" ticket, purchased a ticket a few days ago. Received an email just now
that says I can purchase a gift ticket for another person. Just bought one for my friend. The gift tickets cost the same as the original ticket.

  16. I couldn't see the concert in person (I live in the North East) OR watch the live stream. Stupid YouTube took down all the videos of the concert. I wanna know what played… I only saw 1 video of Luka's Just Be Friends and I think an English version of World's End Dancehall.
